Compare Regions The story of Teach For America in the Greater Delta is over 25 years in the making. After its founding in 1990, Teach For America was invited to establish the Mississippi Delta region in light of an urgent need to improve the quality of life and education for children growing up in Arkansas and Mississippi. Years into the work of supporting these states’ most underserved counties, Teach For America allocated resources to engage educators in Mississippi and Arkansas as two independent regions in order to accommodate the growth of our corps’ impact, and better meet the needs of our partner communities and school districts. The resulting partnerships remain a powerful force propelling us forward in this movement, and are part of why the Mississippi and Arkansas regions have consolidated once more. The opportunity to give our undivided attention to the local leaders who make up the Greater Delta, as well as to our mission to end educational inequity for all Mississippi and Arkansas students, is too great to ignore. The narrative continues through a growing population of alumni and a legacy of regional leadership that is still visible in TFA offices and classrooms today. That’s because the Greater Delta: Mississippi and Arkansas, is home. Moved by the passion and potential of this place, we have built our lives here, met partners here, started families here, established businesses here, and continue to pour our hearts into the students and families we live and work alongside and for.
